Does anybody know of a place that sells box-spring mattresses? I don't remember seeing many such mattresses in Korea... but my back is killing me when I sleep. I'll buy it new or secondhand... Any ideas?

Hey, try the floor. I know, sounds f'ing ridiculous, but it works. After I got hit by a car in june, my back was constantly killing me, and I mean BAD. When I recently moved into my new joint, it had no furnishing, so I began sleeping on the floor- BAM! All back pain is gone. Give it a try.

Korean mattresses seem to have both a box spring and a mattress in one. I find the beds here are hard enough but don't last very long. After six months we took the legs off the bed and put it directly on the floor and things are a bit better. If the bed is too soft try getting a thin mattress (or an exercise mat) and try the floor as Demonicat suggests.

Do you sleep with a pillow between your legs? If not, try that first.

The easiest way to buy furniture in Korea is probably the internet.

try enuri.com or auction.co.kr

If you have a Korean friend, you don't even have to go through the online page.. just get the phone number of the seller, transfer the money to them, and they will deliver it to you.

If you decide to go the floor route, you can go into any blanket shop (they are EVERYWHERE) and find a yo (bottom pad) and a blanket at a decent price. They sell them as sets or separately. Some are quite nice.
