This seems as good as any a place for this. Feel free to move it mods... Heh, like you need my permission.

For Halloween, I dressed up as an emo-rocker. My costume included a Chinese Gibson (Spelled "Gibsun") knock-off guitar that cost me a couple of man won at the Dongdaemun flea market.

Well, after Halloween, I had this guitar sitting in the corner of my room, and by damn, I decided to learn how to play it. So, I've been practicing for all of two months now, and I sound just as good as you'd expect.

But, I was looking online at all of the different brands and types of guitars for an image to accompany a blog post, and I came across a few models that gave me a serious case of...

GUITAR LUST

For example, here is this fine Gibson product:

Now, I'm a rocker who likes to rock out, so I was thinking, that after growing a mullet and buying some leather pants, I would soon be worthy of this guitar.

But this gorgeous Washburn...

... Just sorta calls to me. Like, "Hey baby. Come up to my place and finger my fretts sometime."

So this leads me to ask: Has anyone seen any of these models around Seoul? I've seen a number of Asian knock-offs but I may have over-looked the real deals.

Also, anyone else have some guitar lust? What models?

I have an accoustic that I bought from Daves poster Harpeux, but not a lecky. At least not in Korea.

Back home I have an epiphone which has poor sustain but a lovely, warm sound and it's easy to play. I also have a zoom multi-effect pedal and - of course - an amp (Marshall).

I have a Yamaha keyboard too. I miss them! I don't buy more because I don't wanna have a shit load of accessories in Korea.

Gotta say, this is a sweet guitar.

Oh yeah, here's my "Gibson with a U" in case anyone wants to giggle at it.

For me it's gotta be the Edward Van Halen Music Man released around 1991-92, before Peavey started making his guitars. Sorry, no photo but definitely one to lust after.

I love Telecasters! I've had about 5 of them.

George Harrison played one of these on the Let It Be movie.

Stratocasters are good for beginners. Very easy to play and you can get good sounds from a Strat very easily. Also, there is a huge choice of strat-like copies which are very cheap. My cousin, a fantastic guitar player, has bought many expensive guitars like Gibsons and Rickenbackers but he always prefers his first guitar, a 200 dollar Tokai Strat.

You need new strings. You might want to upgrade the pickups, too. Sky pickups are cheap and of great quality. www.guitarparts.com. I got their HRO-1A and HPAO-1 in my spare (basically, Kent Armstrong's version of the Gibson PAF and the Seymour Duncan JB).

Oh, sorry, that's an old picture that I took when I first picked it up from the flea market so everyone could have a good laugh at the knock-off. I replaced the strings as soon as I decided to try and learn to play it. (well, before I took it to work as part of my costume. Last thing I needed was kids cutting themselves on them)

I wasn't going to risk getting lockjaw on rusty strings.

I never got an amp, so I have no idea how the electrics work... if at all. But I figure that if I do find and buy the guitars I'm lusting for, I will amplify.

And shred.

Maybe.

Thanks for the advice tho.

Just in case you've been living on another planet and have never encountered the jam room... Play

I sold my old sunburst strat when I came to Korea, but I'll never sell the bass. Ibanez SDGR series (Korean copy)

let's bump this thread... guitar wankery is one of my favorite topics.

i love my les paul special, here's a pic of the bob marley reissue that is pretty much identical...

but let's talk about amps, too.

i miss my marshall JTM 50...

it's this vintage, but it's beat to hell. but it sounds amazing. i will re-claim it one day, it's on extended loan while i'm abroad.

Heh. I just picked up an Epiphone the other day. It makes my Gibsun With A "U" sound like farts.

I also found the Washburn I wanted, but it cost a month's salary. Shocked Sounded like god, though. If only I more than two months practice I could have really made it sing.

Hey guys, how much would a small amp cost me? Small cuz I don't have much room and shipping/ storage will be a pain in the ass.

Also: Flying with a guitar. Anyone know the rules?

Hem, I'll ask in the travel forum as well.
