Despite the movie, the original comics run on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was some interesting steampunk.

Go for some of the alpha coordinates man! Necromancer by Gibson...
Bladerunner (probably seen that eh?) Johnny Mnemonic, while not being a great movie, has interesting references to great movies (Like Eisensteins portrait of Lenin). In film, check out Terry Gilliam: Brazil and 12 Monkeys. Philip K D.ick was a Scifi mastermind, but unfortunately his craft was more suited to film than the novel (IMHO). Minority Report, Paycheque, and BladeRunner were all based on D.ick novels and while BladeRunner is the only masterpiece of the bunch, MR and PC are pretty good movies too!

I know Scifi isn't synonymous with your sub-sub-genres, but that's the best I could do man... Although I've never read a Bruce Sterling novel, I have read his writings about the craft of Science Fiction, and the man knows his stuff. It's a project that's on the back burner for me (to read one of his novels).

He has just finished the latest book he's beeen working on, though (I think it's titled "Spook Country" at the moment) so we should be getting something new soon.

Right..have just fulfilled my geek quota for the night. (Except to mention that if you haven't read Bruce Sterling yet, Zoobot, you might start with The Difference Engine, which he co-wrote with Gibson)

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming. I've read all of Gibson, and most of the Sterling. I love PKD, I think he was the grandfather of Cyberpunk. Movies too... suggest movies or novels/shortstories!

Snow Crash was awesome, also Neuromancer, another classic and check out Vurt by Noon (I think) trippy drug/sci-fi/cyberpunk really great, saw a used copy at Whatthebook today and almost picked it up again.

...Don't know if it counts as "cyberpunk", but I'd recommend just about anything by Harland Ellison for heavy/tripped out sci-fi. "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" is one of the most deranged stories I've read.

Neal Stephenson is great. He did Snow Crash mentioned above.
I also enjoyed The Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon.
