I remember seeing this when I first moved to Korea, but not for a long time since. Here's a short video some friends took who live in the same aprartment block. I once asked someone why kids do it, and was told it's thought if they chase after it, it's good luck. I personally can't see how it can be good for you. |

Can't be too bad for you...an engineer that I work with at the research center for digital appliances told me that he and all his friends used to chase the pesticide truck for long periods when they were young. When I asked him why he would do that, he said "white smoke is magical"

I would put this in the same category as the time some of my students and my coteacher told me that sniffing glue and magic markers was good for you because it cleaned your brain.
It'll clean your brain alright....of all function! |

I'm of the opinion that any kind of gas designed to kill insects that comes billowing out of the back of a truck should not be inhaled in mass quantities. But that's just me.
These trucks must come around my apartment block at least 3 or 4 times a week. Usually around supper time, when the little one is getting ready for bed. Me and the wife rush around to close all the windows, but no one else seems that bothered. People out in the playground carry on as if it's no biggie. Grandmas and little babies included. |

Mosquitos carry diseases that kill millions of people annually around the world.
Take your pick. |

They're just playing the "Eeeek-the-evil-foreigner-is-chasing-u-let's-hide-in-the-white-smoke" game.
Ah, kids. |

Happened all the time back in the 1960s when I was a kid at USAF bases in Libya, the Congo, and later Italy. And the scent was addictive and we didn't know a heck of a lot about DDT, and Rachel Carson's book had only just been out a few years.
So it ain't just a Korean thing, bruddah. |

Okay that is the funniest thing I've seen in a long, long time.
You would think the guy run the pesticide machine would say something or another. |

If you watch again closely you can see some of the kids falling over each other as the truck exits the car park. The other day the adjoshi riding in the back had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth as the gas fumes were collecting all around him. |
