im contemplating doing this and after researching i havn't managed to find many opportunities. Can anyone find a good site with such jobs available? Or has anyone done this before?

any advice is appreciated

The first thing that comes to mnd.....no money. Why work for very low wages?
Secondly, many in the P.I. speak English. Far more so than koreans.
You can bet one thing....if English teaching jobs were available in either the P.I. or Thailand AND paid a reasonable wage....no teachers would want to come to korea.
Look at how much more relaxing it could be living in either of those countries.

There are opportunities for ESL/EFL teachers in the Philippines. About a month ago on Dave's there was an ad for an ESL teacher, however, the contact name was a Korean name, and therein lies the market for ESL teaching in the Philippines...

Most ESL jobs there entail working for Korean bosses who run camps for Korean children. The Koreans have found it cheaper (and just as effective) to send their kids to the Philippines for a month or two, pay room and board, and be taught by a Philippino, as send their kid to a camp or hakwan here in Korea.

You as a worker in these places will be doing essentially the same work as you do in Korea, but you will be getting around $800.00 or less per month, because any Philippino would do it for half that (the HIGHEST I have heard is $800.00 for a westerner and that was someone qualified out the ying-yang).

So if the low pay doesn't bother you, and you've had good hakwan experiences here, then you may be able to find something. Put your resume on Dave's and see if you get any nibbles.

cheers everyone, great info. Yeah i'm not expecting to save anything, am just contemplating this for the experiance. As long as i get enough to survive substantially i'll be happy. I wonder if the standard salary is enough to do so? Free accom etc...i somehow doubt this?

Been in korea for 8 months and will fin my contract, came with the expectation of staying 3 years and learn the language but i need to escape!The money is the only reason im still here and will come back. Made great mates etc but the stress of the job and hearing "미국 사람" when i am a damn KIWI is driving me insane!

poet - cheers for the info and cosmo you're a champion...and i wouldn't mind if some of my pay was beer:-)!

1. It's good U R not expecting to save anything.

2. Working in a Philippines city is different than hanging in a Philippines
beach. I find the P city life to be more stressful than the K city life.

3. In Philippines you will hear "HEY JOE" or " AMERICANO".

4. Good luck, who knows, you might meet the love of your life. I did.

A teacher from my school did a one-month course in the Phillipines aimed at Korean teachers, taught by mostly American teachers. I don't know what they were making but it was probably more than Thai salary.
