I would just like to give an enormous THANK YOU to Dave Duebelbeiss and the resources/ teachings links he has posted on his website...you have made teaching infinitely easier (and more fun) in an incredibly short time.
In three years of teaching, i have NEVER seen a website more well-suited for a foreign instructor working in the Korean public school system (this includes other websites like bogglesworld, eslcafe, onestopenglish, efl4u, and all the rest). Great, games, handouts, and lessons...all mostly or completely student-centered...I have already used at least six of your PowerPoint activities in my class, and I'm still going!
The Karaoke activities work great too! My middle school kids really enjoyed belting out "singing in the rain" last week!
Your website provides an invaluable service to ALL native speakers teaching in public schools and definitely deserves a spot in the the esl resource website "hall of fame"...I only wish I had discovered in sooner!
Keep up the good work! |

Wow! What a ringing endorsement for Dave Duebelbeiss from........................Dave Duebelbeiss!!!
Come on sock - unmask yourself and be dammed!
Just kidding. Good website Duebelbeiss, keep it going.
(Lose some of those MacGyver type photos though - "Hey look at me, I know how to run marathons, I know how to jump mountains, I know how to upload photos of me, but I don't know any form of modest self restraint!")

Adventureman and all others who've found something useful on my site -- great to know it is of use and reaching who it is intended.
I started the site mostly just to help first year teachers, also Korean teachers, gain confidence by having really good, dependable, flexible materials to use in the classroom. Also materials which despite their inevitable failings the first years, might give the kids an out, lots of fun, student centered stuff. Secondly, I started the site because I am a firm believer in the teacher not only as a student but the student as a teacher. Meaning, students must be shown how to learn in and of and for themselves. IT is a termendous tool in this regard, Yes, many downfalls but at the end of the day it liberates the student from the teacher. Using materials on my site, the teacher can direct the student to review, use again these materials at home.....no longer any magic over the material, equal access to and for all....
I will be changing my website in the next few months but will still keep it basic and simple. Just great, easy to use materials. Student centered that leave the teacher much flexibility on how to adapt/use. But I make no apologizes for horrible layout etc.........I'm no techie but just a guy trying to do what he believes; that teaching is sharing and we should all try and make things a little easier for others. Kinda like that colloquial, sentimental notion of "Paying it back". Also, it is MY site,so no apologizes about my pics. Proud of myself and what I've accomplished. This place is a place for ME and if you don't believe in yourself, you've got no place to start.....

Thanks tiger. But as far as the CE forum, I also give out my fair share of "beep" there. That I am not loved by all is a badge of honour. In the land of the half blind, the guy with the glasses is king. I think all true "knowing" that dodges and judges things independently, is always against the quiet desperation and mass. And also for the most part CE consists of too many closet red necks who just blather from their gameboy perch, like boys wishing to be cowboys. But enough about that....I'll be back giving it in CE soon...
But if you find something on my site particularly useful, let me know. Soon will update with much more for kids. Spent about 5 hours doing the Paper Bag Princess...you should all check that out. Also the A/V section has some cool stories for use. But I'd wish many would use the karaoke, it is great in the class, a great way to learn English and make your lessons appealing. I also just posted a "HOW to make your own karaoke". If interested, take a read.

This is basically a bump post. I haven't really tried anything out yet, but I plan to do so this week while I have plenty of time sitting in my teacher's office at the computer.
I mainly teach high-school classes at a technical high school where the English level is generally low, but I also teach a couple elementary classes twice a week in the evenings.
I've used karaoke a lot in my high school classes, but I've been subscribing to a paid site that costs (me) ten dollars a month (www.ksolo.com) I frankly haven't been able to use it that effectively as a learning tool, but mainly as entertainment to keep students awake, and to maybe generate more interest in learning English.
Prior to that, I relied on "Edutainment" cassette tapes of classic pop oldies (by the original artists ...) and ready-made "song cloze" sheets for listening exercises...
I'm interested especially in checking out games like "Price Is Right", etc. on ddeuble's" site that might interest my high school students, and if his karaoke thing works as well as my paid site, maybe I can save some money... |

If you can't make up a lesson on your own 5 minutes before class that is both effective and interesting you should look at your own skills before complimenting this guy. |
