hellooo
well, i'm ABOUT to sign a contract to teach in Korea but i'm waiting to hear back from a couple people. i plan on being in Korea late Feb/early March with the way things are going...
anyway, i'm from the grand ol' U.S. of A and i'm just wondering if it's easy to meet other "westerners" (as i've learned from the msg. boards they are commonly referred to?!)? i play soccer, snowboard, um.. pretty much love all sports?! is it easy to find "activity" or teams to play on?!?! oh - and i'm female, if that makes a difference?!
thanks for your input - it's appreciated! |

If you are in Seoul, then it is very easy to find other westerners. Same for Busan. If you live in a smaller area, you will find some other westerners at local hangouts.
Snowboarding, by the way, is the best sport in this day and age. |

You'll do fine. If you're in Seoul you'll probably get sick of foreigners |

I think team sports would be difficult to find unless you can meet up and make friends with Korean college students or a Korean group. |

No sir, you just have to do a bit of research, I've already lined up 2 hockey teams depending on where I go in the country, and I'm hoping to find a baseball team to join in the summer.
I'll be in the Anyang area, please let me know if there is a baseball team I could join or even just guys who regurlarly play a certain time at a certain field. |

n13,
The amount of foreigners you will meet will depend upon your location.
It would help if you specify the location you will be at.
There are plenty of snowboarding and soccer venues.
The BUZRUN snowboard co. has a factory and a discount sales showroom.
There are sports and clubs everywhere, if you consider joining a Korean club. I joined a paragliding club for a while. |

Being female doesn't really help or hurt much either way (IMHO) because most of the guys here are hitting it with Korean Women, but they aren't usually stupid enough to be sexist.
Hiking is a national pass time. Which I suppose comes from having your country be 70% mountains... |

Great, thanks everyone i am in the process of deciding "where" I will be teaching, but I'm pretty sure it will be in/near Seoul as that seems to be the majority of recommendations from people I've been in touch with...?! was going to go boarding here in MN tonight, but decided not to venture out being that the current temp is 4 degrees... nice |
