|
|
I'm posting for a friend who wants to pick up some extra hard disk space - probably an external hard drive.
Case excluded, what is a reasonable price for say around 80GB-120GB?
I suppose the read/write speed plays a factor in the pricing although I'm not really up to speed when it comes to hardware so advice is appreciated. Are 4200-rpm, 5400-rpm, and 7200-rpm still standard speeds?
She doesn't need any particularly specialist hardware, just basic backup and storage space.
Any recommendations and pricing appreciated.
Thank in advance. |

SATA? EIDE?
Anyhow, Western Digital, 80GB..about 45,000. 7200RPM. 160GB = 55,000. Go with the bigger drive, I guess.
Linkage. |

Thanks demophobe. I don't really know the difference between EIDE and SATA. Just googled and got this but it doesn't really make much sense to me apart from SATA is newer technology and faster. And this warning...

But beware - SATA drives use different cables than typical EIDE drives. They require an SATA-compatible motherboard, or an SATA adapter card that fits in a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) slot in your computer. |
For basic backup for a laptop thats a couple of years old, SATA should be compatible and be the way to go?
Looked at the website and there doesn't really seem to be any significant difference in price between the SATA and EIDE??
WD EIDE 160G (7200/2M) WD1600BB 정품 05년 208 50,000
WD EIDE 160G (7200/8M) WD1600JB 정품 05년 199 52,000
and...
WD SATA2 160G (7200/8M) WD1600AAJS 정품 '610월 61 54,000
WD SATA2 160G (7200/8M) WD1600JS 정품 05년 160 52,000
Thoughts? I should really know more about this stuff myself...
The last one looks about right to my uneducated eye... |

this page should help. i'm gonna get a 320 gig ide or sata hard drive for 92000 won. |
I think 320GB is a bit much for her requirements. 160 should be plenty considering she doesn't get into downloading movies much. Also you start to lose portability after 160BG don't you? i.e. need an external power source? |

you can buy big external hard drives (regular computer hard drives in an external case), or small ones (notebook hard drives in an external case). the big ones are faster and cheaper, and all require external power supplies. some small ones require power supplies and some don't (they are powered through the usb/firewire port). the small ones are much more expensive... |

So what you're saying is that you could have two drives of identical capacity e.g. 160GB yet physically they could be a significantly different size and price difference could a lot?
How do I ask for this in Korean? (and in English? ) |

yes. a usb 2.0 160 gig external 3.5 inch drive should cost around 70,000 won - 100,000 won. you should add another 100,000 won to the price for a 2.5 inch one.
just as an example:
small one: http://pc.danawa.com/price_right.html?cate1=861&cate2=877&pcode=154479
big one: http://pc.danawa.com/price_right.html?cate1=861&cate2=877&pcode=154508 |
