This is kinda a follow-up to an earlier post of mine re backpacking.
Has anyone gone from Korea into China, then travelled thru China and on to SE Asia? What is transport like? Am I likely to endure 12 hour, death-defying bus trips as I did in Vietnam. I've never been to China and I'm keen to add it to my resume.
Cheers

I did this trip a couple of years ago. It was great. I took the ferry from Incheon to Qingdao and then took various trains (hard-sleeper) down to Vietnam. Stopped in Nanjing, Huangshan, Guilin, and Yangzhou on the way down. Took an overnight sleeper bus from Guilin to the border with Vietnam.
On the way back to Korea, crossed from Laos into China and went to a few places in south-western and central China before taking the ferry back from Qingdao to Incheon.
I think you'll be a lot more comfortable taking overnight trains in China. Hard-sleepers are fairly decent and economical. The few buses I did take were somewhat death-defying, but that's just part of the tapestry of a proper travel experience. |

The ferry is great.
There's a sticky about boats to China on the Travel Forum.
You should be able to find the info on there.
Also, have a look at this website: http://www.weidong.com |
