The website linked to on the Seoul Global Center website (http://global.seoul.go.kr/global/view/living/liv07_03.jsp) doesn't work, and the interactive bus map (that would be a really great resource if it wasn't usually broken- http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteWebApp/view_english/map.jsp), is of course not working.

So how can I figure out how to get from Bundang (Sunae) to Chungcheongno and back today without taking a painfully long subway ride?

You might want to try again. I just went on the site and it is working. Make sure you allow the add on program to install (I think it's called Twinkle Little Star or something like that).

Hmm, well, I am using a Mac. It takes me to the map but the map part is blank, and there are no boxes to enter in departure and arrival information. I also don't get any pop-up window telling me to install anything.

It won't work on a Mac (I have one too)...unless you get IE6 or above running. This is possible using various means (done it- yuck)- but a bit annoying to do just to look at a nice bus map.

failing all else call tourist info at 02 1330 give them your starting point and destination and they'll look it up for you.

if they say it's not a direct route you might have to ask about transfers - they won't always offer the info - (perhaps they think westerners can't handle it??)

if there IS a transfer and you are going to do it - make sure also to ask if the transfer is there where you get off OR do you have to walk to it at another location

I swear to you - if you DON'T ask the right qs they won't give you the info - they just don't anticipate it - maybe none of them use the buses? I donno - but make sure you've asked every conceivable q for them to respond -

Chungcheongno?

Just take the 5500-1 to ulcherio and transfer to subway if it is north of the river otherwise jump on a bus going to Kangnam and transfer around there.

I know what you mean.... It hasn't been working right for me either and I'm using Internet Explorer. It won't let me search for the starting and ending point. Instead, I've been using the button right under the search window, "Select on the map," finding my start and end points myself and doing it like that. Takes more time, I know. I emailed them about this problem and I wish they would fix it.

Great website. You must user internet explorer, and install the active x application (the yellowish bar that will appear under the toolbar). I use this website all the time. Many different ways to get the bus routes.

Yeah, that's the one we're talking about... For many of us, the search function for specific places isn't working. Hasn't been for months. Of course, you can look up specific bus numbers or search on the map for your start and end points, but the search function was so convenient.

Which search do you exactly mean? Do you mean "Buses running in the area you see in the map?" This works for me

Bus Number search also works for me

Well, it IS a great website (I used it back when I had a PC), but I can't use it with my Mac. So, would anyone who is able to use it be so kind as to search for the starting location of Sunae station (Bundang-gu) and destination of Chungcheongno? It would be a big help to me...

Then I need to know how to get back, too, but I hope I could just cross the street to turn around (though it isn't always that easy here in the land of huge, complicated intersections).

Someone give the brutha (or sista) a hand...

Take 5500-1 to Dankook University (in Hannam-dong) and transfer onto a #472 (blue) and that will take you straight to Chungjeongno station. Sounds like a long haul though - congnamul.com says it'll take around 100 minutes. Make sure you're not in a hurry.

Or take the 5500-1 all the up to Chongno 2-ga and you can take a plethora of buses to Chungjeongno (271, 721, 260, 160, 270) which will take about 5 minutes longer according to the site, but I think in real time it might be faster, since you'll have more than one bus to choose from.

And you're right, coming back is pretty much crossing the street and reversing directions.

BTW, www.congnamul.com (the Korean site - way better) works fine in Firefox for me, except for the little map in the upper right corner.
