|
|
When I first started looking for jobs in December 2006, these were the rates for public schools in a non-rural area:
Level 1: 2.3 million won
Level 2: 2.0 million won
Level 3: 1.8 million won
Recently I have seen this:
Level 1: 2.3 million won
Level 2: 2.1 million won
Level 3: 2.0 million won
Did this change take place across all public schools? Thanks. |

| Depends on the province. You will also see variations in the vacation times. |

| Sorry I didn't mention the province. The discrepancies I posted are all within Gyeonggi-do. |

Chungnam is much higher than that.
We offer:
Level 1++: 2,800,000~3,000,000
Level 1+: 2,600,000~2,800,000
Level 1: 2,400,000~2,600,000
Level 2: 2,200,000~2,400,000
Level 3: 2,000,000~2,200,000
In addition to having five pay scales, our province also recognizes the increases in the cost of living and offers 400,000 per month as a housing subsidy (100,000 more per month than other provinces in Korea).
Options?

Nice.
I may be needing a position somewhere between ShiHeung/Pupyong/Bucheon soon. With Tch Diploma (public sch. certification) + BA and 6 years exp, what would be the negotiable, usual salary rates?
Gepik screwed around once before quoting a salary of 2 million, so I didn't proceed with the application. Do many of these govt. organizations have that same problem. That what they offer is less than that advertised. |

Ahh, but who do you have to kill for that?
Seems that all those positions would be full of teachers clinging desperately to those jobs if they are so good, no? |

Actually, these contract terms are new as of September 1st, 2006, so most people do not know about them. Recruiting has been difficult, because people do not want to work in rural areas in Chungnam Province.
Trying to get the word out, but we are about thirty people shy of our recruiting goals starting this February 21st. Not good.

What the hell is 1+ and 1++ ??
Level 1 pay of 2.4 to 2.6 is not that remarkable. I can get 2.5 mill at level 1 (CELTA with 2+ yrs teaching exp) in public schools in the city of Changwon and the rural areas of Gyeongsannamdo on the south coast near Busan so I needn't go up there.
2.8 or more probably needs an education degree and certification to teach in public schools back in one's home country. |

Level 1++: 3 consecutive yrs with Chungam as a level 1.
Level 1+: 2 consecutive yrs with Chungam as a level 1.
Level 1: 2 yrs teaching experience with a Teacher's Certificate or
2 yrs teaching experience with a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Certificate
Level 2: MA degreeTeacher's/TEFL/TESOL/CELTA Certificate
BA plus 1 yr full-time English Experience
Level 3: BA degree
The base salary listed is without the 100,000 for the provincial allowance and without the 100,000 for the rural allowance. In reality, the actual salary is usually the larger of the two numbers listed, so 2.8 is really 3 million KRW. If you were in a city, you would still get the provincial allowance, so the 2.8 would be 2.9. Do you follow?
Anyway, I hope the above answers your questions.

I imagine it would be since the email address listed on the Chungnam Province brochure is not valid.

Yeah, it is amazing how long it takes for them to correct those types of problems (I mentioned it back in October). The official papers that have to be stamped and passed around for action to be taken can be very frustrating. Fortunately, for those that are resourceful and show some initiative, they can easily obtain the correct address and phone number eslewhere on the www.cne.go.kr website.
Perhap it's a good thing in a way. It can help weed out those that have to be spoon feed from those that can overcome simple hurdles in the application process.
I know if I wanted it bad enough, I would simply click on another page to see the error and contact the right people.
That being said, I wish they would just fix it already.

Well, let's look at it the other way around. Suppose you received a resume from a teacher which did not have essential information presented correctly. What would you conclude from the error? Would you consider it a "test" to weed out administrators who couldn't overcome simple hurdles?
That brochure is one of the few things a prospective teacher has to judge the level of professionalism of the administrators in the province.
