I'm going to Itaewon this afternoon in search of a good English book store, an Indian market, and interesting things/places to see. A friend of mine said to make SURE that I pass through "hooker hill". Is that a recommendation I should forgo? If not, where is it?

Thanks,
Hoss

Hooker hill is something interesting to see if you've never seen a row of brothels before. However, going in the middle of a Sunday afternoon will not give you much of an idea of what it can be like. Also, because of the cold, the hookers aren't in full gear. During warmer times, they stand around outside yelling at people, trying to make deals.

If that's where you really want to go, you have to walk past the Starbucks, coming from the subway exit. When you get the the intersection, make a right. Then make your first left after 7-11. It's a hill..

The best (possibly only) English bookstore in Itaewon is "What the Book?" and I'd highly recommend it (has a good selection at pretty decent prices). If you go there, you'll have to walk up Hooker Hill anyways.

Here's the link: http://www.whatthebook.com/visit.html

Once you pass What the Book on your left, you'll go up a block (I think) and turn left towards the Mosque. Before you get to it, there will be an Indian store on the left. I really should have gone in and picked up some supplies. I could really use some cardamon pods and some corriander.

I went and bought some stuff. Be sure you check and double-check all the spices and pickled stuff (mango etc) expiration date.

I had a bad stomach poisoning, fewer, etc....I used Chicken Tikka spice mix which apparently expired. After double-checking the box - date is not even printed!!!

Used book store- go down the other way in Itaewon (i.e. get out of the subway and walk towards the base, instead of uphill). Turn right at the end of the street, walk abit further and you'll see a store named "book". It is not organized at all, but they are cheaper than what the book (by far) and sell magazines.
