My school had one fire drill all year. It wasn't as serious as the ones I remember from school in the US, but it rated significantly higher on the "cool" scale than ours. We exited the school (not exactly hurriedly, but that was the intention). There followed the arrival of a fire truck and the lighting of buckets of something (straw?) which gave off colored smoke. Then some kids and teachers got to drag the hose out of the truck and put them out. Everybody cheered.

We also had war drills of some sort, some kind of alarm and then information over the intercom explaining what we should do if this were a real attack - 2-3 times the whole year if memory serves me. I didn't really understand what was happening very well and my co-teachers looked a little embarrassed about explaining it, so I just let it go.

Wow! That sounds like fun!

I worked at a public school and we didn't have a drill the year I was there, though the alarm went off intermittently. No one batted an eye.

In 1 1/2 years at my school we've had one fire / bomb drill, after the Norks tested their nuke. Everyone knew exactly when it would happen, a siren sounded, and everyone went outside to loiter around chatting for 20 minutes while the PA system played an announcement no one listened to. There was no organisation, no head-counts, no assembling in an orderly manner or anything of the like.
