I recently encountered a "Nice Try" with my employer. I have my own apartment and recently received a bill for health insurance. The problem is that it's his personal health insurance bill, which in no way covers me. Razz
Now this bill goes into the trash each month. I must learn to read Korean.
Also today, I received in the mail something that looks exactly like my gas bill. The trick you ask? It's a bill asking for a 5000 won donation.
Another "Nice Try".

Nice try?Persistent...anyway,he made 5k,I guess.

I had that happen last year. It wasn't my bill, so I wasn't sure what he wanted. He kept shoving it in my hand, and asking for the money. So I took the bill. closed the door, and threw the bill in the garbage.

He waited in the hallway for the money for at least 15 minutes. (I could hear him out there).

I'm guessing thats the Red Cross. How dare they ask you for a $5 donation to charity, those bastards.

Um, given anything to a good cause lately? Its a worthy annual drive. I'm happy to contribute.

I'm convinced that some Koreans think waygookin = money tree.

I've had adjummas stop me on the sidewalk and demand money...for what I'll never know, I just kept walking. It's not that I don't give money sometimes, I do. It's that I DO NOT want them to think they can just DEMAND money from me for whatever, and expect me to fork it over. Shocked

I've also had beggars start shouting at me because I didn't contribute. Why aren't they shouting at all the Koreans passing them by? What, because I'm a waygukin, I have to give money? Shocked
That kind of attitude makes me very stingy, very fast, if you know what I mean. Confused

I give between $750-1200 to charities annually. They are charities that *I* choose to give to. Anyone who asks/begs me for money automatically doesn't get it.

This goes also for charities that I donate to, too. I tell them: "I give you money every January. If anyone ever calls or emails me asking for money during the year, I will never send you another dime, and instead give the money to another charity that does NOT bother me." Works like a charm.

I have my particular causes I like to support (and while I don't donate money to the Red Cross, I do donate blood to their blood banks). I leave it to others to support theirs. Some charities I refuse to support. Good luck to them.

You have to be careful with the things you receive in the mail. Remember, I also received the bosses national health insurance bill. For some "strange" reason it was mailed to my address, not his. Wheather I decide to make the donation to the Red Cross is my own concern. However, I don't want to be tricked nto it.
