For those that have married a Korean, I'm wondering if you have any observations about your s/o's parenting skills. Do they mesh with yours or has there been any problems or cultural differences?
I've just observed a total lack of parenting from what I'm used to anyways since I've been here. Kids just don't recieve guidance on what is appropriate (of course by my standards). I mean if my kid were to act like the average Korean kid, I'd go crazy.
My gf's brother's family is at my apartment now and their kid is driving me up the wall. And compared to the other neices, she's an angel!
So are your kids little princes or princesses that can do no wrong too? |

We have made sure that ours mesh. Before we start any new iniative...like getting the older one to share more...we talk about it first. We discuss how were are going to go about it and make sure we are on the same page.
If something comes up, then we tend to follow each other's lead, so that our oldest doesn't play one of us against the other. For the most part, we are bringing our kids up to act accordingly in both cultures. But I would have to admit that our style seems very Western to me, and we tend to do things how my mother would like them done...lol... |

I remember a time that I was yelling at my older son about something (can't remember what) and I heard my Mom's words coming out of my mouth! I just started laughing...and said "Mom...are you there??" My son, of course, thought that I was crazy! Wait until he has HIS own little one!! He'll understand!! |

"As long as you live under this roof, ..."
My daughter is still very young, but I think my wife and I see eye to eye on most things. Every now and then, we'll discuss something that one of us would do differently, but overall, we mesh.
But I hear what you're saying about other people's kids and the way they are raised. We have a neighbor that we can often hear just yelling at the top of her lungs, and she lives across the street. |
