Hello,
I'm taking over a company class for another teacher and I have a slight problem. I asked the former teacher for the book she was using and she told me that she left it at the company.
Got any good ideas for a 50 minute intro lesson? |

Try talking to them and learning their background.
Why I like to do when entering a new class is this. Smile, say hi and then hand out a piece of paper to each group.
Tell them they have 10 questions to ask you.
Then tell them you want 5 rude questions and 5 silly questions.
They then have to ask you these questions to find out all the info they can about you. |

I do a similar activity. I divide them into groups and tell them to write X number of Yes/No questions (usually 5) to ask me. I award 2 points for each question I answer Yes, 1 point if I answer No and -1 if they repeat a question another group asked (so they have to pay attention); I also don't let them ask obvious questions (are you a male, is your shirt blue). |

Break them into pairs. Provide each student with a list of interview questions, the zanier the better. Nothing about work or travel, ask things they wouldn't know about each other. Then, they have to ask each other the questions. Tell them to ask follow-up questions and give an example of what a follow-up question is. After that, they "introduce" their partner to the class, and you ask follow-up questions as they do. For a class of 6 students, 3-5 questions each will take up 50 minutes. |
