Can anyone point me to proper Korean income tax information? My employer is useless and told me they "don't have time" so I need to take care of it myself. Where do I get tax forms, what do I need to file the taxes, and most of all ...I am leaving for Japan after my contract ends in Feb. Do I have to file 2007 taxes too, do both on one filing. Thank you in advance for nay help or guidance.

| Find a Korean speaking friend, go to the tax office and ask questions. They were pretty cool last time I went. |

You punch in a number (at the above website) and there is a proviso/ warning/ qualifier:
>However, it should also be noted that the above monthly income tax amount may not account for all the amounts taken off your monthly Wage & Salary Income, including national health insurance, employment insurance, and national pension, etc., which means you may check the details of deductions with your employer
National Health Insurance, explained here:
http://www.nhic.or.kr/wbe/faq/faq.html
No problem. 2.4 % from employee, 2.4 % from the employer. Cool, no problem.
But what about this "employment insurance" thingy? What is it? Must I pay into a "national pension?" What are the percentages on these last two items? Where can I find more info on these last two things? |
