I live outside of Korea but the people with Korean friends; do they know what foreigners think of them? They go on about their hatred for Americans/Japanese or whoever is on the docket that day but do they realize that foreigners think their a bunch of xenophobic nationalistic (bordering on fascist) hillbillies that suffer from a serious insecurity issues? If they do hear this what do they say? Get upset? Denial? Not fully understand? Do they care?
Not trolling here just curious of how self aware Korean are. |

I do not think that about Koreans. I think some people are that way, as in most countries I'm sure. So I don't think it's fair to say "foreigners think..." about this.
Anyway I've never had a conversation about that with someone, so I don't know how aware they are of some foreigners' opinions. Some people translate things from Dave's to Korean and post it on Korean message boards (such as gwiz and daum), so there's a chance some of the more negative things have been publicized in Korean language.

I swear the trolls are going to be the death of this board (whether you think it's a good thing or bad thing is a personal preference)... |

I don't know any Koreans who hate Americans or Japanese people. I know a lot who hate the US army, American free trade, what Japan did to Korea during the imperial era, and the rising tide of nationalism in Japan. But none of them personally hate Americans or Japanese people. Of course, that's just the people I know, and my friends don't speak for the general population. They're just activists, radicals, punks, fascists, borderline communists, and historians.
I would say though that Koreans don't fully understand how outsiders perceive them. Most Koreans are surprised that the LA riots were partly caused by a racist Korean. |

Typical Koreans will run their secret police and rat on you. And you will be arrested and deported. |

It's hard to say now, but it is the reason Korean businesses in particular were targeted in the riots. Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe the riots would've been less intense if it hadn't happened.
On the other hand, it's not worth dignifying this post with an argument over it. |

Oh yeah, it's pretty obvious that your description of Koreans is based upon what you've read on this site. Bravo. The Racist Cafe keeps churnin'...putt putt putt |

Not so fast. Some people have a sense of humor so dry, it's practically indistinguishable from lying. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. |

Do you always 'think' in glittering generalities, or do you occassionally stop and actually think? |

Some of my friends eluded to the fact that many foreigners look down on Koreans.
I have also told people what our policies and attitudes on racism are. Very different to Korean ideas.
I think many know, some don't. |

It's not a representative group. My father-in-law, for instance, is the leader of a political group who believes that Koreans who betrayed their country to the Japanese during the Imperial era should be known to the general public. He travels to Japan with his wife regularly, and they both have many Japanese friends.
I know some Korean punks who were heavily involved in the Daechuri protests, but every weekend they come to Hongdae and play shows with tons of foreigners, including soldiers, and go drinking with them.
Probably some of the most extreme examples, but they don't hate on a person-to-person level. |

What Quin said and...it really does not take much of a troll to get the wackos to come out of the woodwork on this board....some of the comments made here about Koreans are on par with the lowest pond scum racism that the troll is talking about. Funny how it is considered outrageous when it flows one way and quite allright when it is directed at Koreans.
No double standard there..nawww... |
