OK so I am taking my first Korean Air flight in two weeks. Heading into Korea for the first time.
My question is, do they supply a power plug-in if you have a laptop?
did that make sense? Put another way, can i plug my laptop in while in flight so I get more than two hours out of it?
I haven't travelled by plane for years. Are there places to plug in at the airports as well? I have a three hour lay over. It's going to be a long, long, long long day.

People who have flown Korean Air, what has your experience been with them? I, as a soon-to-be passenger with them, would love to know.

They are long overdue for a crash.

I did call them, the lady did not speak English well. She said something about a power bar, didn't know if that meant I could plug into it or if she was talking about another battery. So has anyone had the experience of plugging in a laptop while in flight?

Last weekend they landed on a taxiway at Akita (it was in the Chosun online, I believe, although I'm too lazy to provide links). Taxiway isn't as wide as a runway. Not a crash, but qualifies as an incident, and would get the pilots fired at many airlines.

What a sick comment to say - they are overdue for a crash.

KAir did have a bad history of accidents but they drastically re-engineered their operational processes. Their SkyTeam member pilots/consultans (Delta/Air France/NWA) came in after last incident and made changes/recommendations/follow-ups which KAir embraced and went beyond the requirements set by the aviation agencies.

I would be concerned if they didn't do much about it but you have to give them credit for all the improvements they've made.

Landing in taxiway is a bad error and you can dig up any major/minor errors on any airlines that most people don't know about, such as:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10312006/news/regionalnews/airline_pilot_in_blunder_land_regionalnews_murray_weiss_and_jeremy_olshan.htm

October 31, 2006 -- A catastrophe was narrowly averted when a jetliner landed on a narrow taxiway at Newark Airport instead of on the runway, The Post has learned.

http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_032603WABrunway.9bf44b16.html

A place lands safely at Sea-Tac, but not on runway

http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_032603WABrunway.9bf44b16.html

SEATTLE (AP) - Alaska Airlines and federal officials are investigating why one of the carrier's jets took off from the wrong runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

http://www.komotv.com/news/4536186.html

The point is pilots, air-traffic controllers, etc are human and as long as human factors are involved nothing is 100% safe. I do believe it's safer to fly, even in Kair, than riding the bus or driving a car.

To the OP:

I used to fly over 250k miles a year and I only saw laptop ports in business or first class. With newer planes coming in, some airlines are putting them in economy in limited seating basis. I believe Kair only has in F and biz. This link might help.

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Korean_Air/Korean_Air_Boeing_747-400.php

You'll find outlets at the airports, usually behind the ticket counter walls or round support pillar at many airports. Or smile and talk your way into the airport lounge.

To answer Kair experience:
They are above average. If you're in economy, most airlines are the same in getting you from point A to B. But I find their service a lot more attentive than N American carriers.

Their new 777 have AVOD systems (movies on demand) which is great for long flights. But you have to know which routing has what type of plane and what ammenities. This is true with most airlines since they all have different aircraft with age/model within each airline.

For me, having AVOD makes a big different on long flights. That's why Singapore is rated so high since most of their aircraft has AVOD. Unfortunately most U.S. carriers lag behind in having AVOD in economy.

Hope this helps.

From a pilots' board:-

Quote:
In fairness, Korean haven't had a hull loss since 1999 and haven't had a passenger fatality since 1997. As bad as they were in the 1990s, I thought the general consensus was that they had made important strides in improving their corporate and safety culture since those days.

And this error is more common than you might think:-

Quote:
Exactly, anyone remember the Continental 757 back in October that landed on the taxiway in Newark, and thats not an airport you would ever want land on a taxiway...
