|

This forum is getting pretty dry. For the past few weeks everybody has been posting pretty much the same thing. I think it would be fun to have two days or so where everybody has to support the position the opposite to theirs. I'll argue that money spent on space development is a waste, Gopher will try to show how the US is becoming an evil empire, Big Bird will criticize Arab countries and support Israel, BJDW (?) will support extra religion in the classroom and especially Islam, etc. etc. But it has to be argued well. We could put a small image in our sigs saying something like "I am currently participating in opposite day" so that people that don't visit CE would know what's going on.
I can't believe people spend so much money on space when there are so many problems at home. |

I'm game.
Really... The US thinks that all that money spent on Space Programs is a good thing? Hahahahahaha...
Look how much it costs for healthcare there! Ridiculous. Also, their education sucks, they are all fat, and they all only speak one language. Idiots! Look at who they elected president!
If only the us was more like Canada, I'd be happy.

Agreed, Mith is a moron.
Living in the sticks is a drag (Sokcho especially is a cesspit). I've lost all patience with stupid newbies. I'm never gonna comment here again.
For the record, Air Canada rules. |

| Okay, here's what I think we'll do: we'll have opposite threads. Mark them with an (op) in the title. Everybody on those threads has to give an opinion opposite to the one they normally give. Anybody who writes their regular opinion is dumb and will be booed until our typing fingers are sore. |

I do have a non-OP quibble: doesn't/don't this/these threads belong in the off-topic forum? They do seem to be mostly for entertainment...
an observation, not a suggestion. |

| Not if we do them right. Taking the time to try to explain the opposite position would be interesting if done by both sides. We'll see how it works out. |

I'm afraid my one thread was more of a satire than a sincere attempt to argue the other side. Oh well.
Anyway, I agree. It's better in Current Events, because then you get stuff by people for whom posting on politics and world affairs is actually a main interest. |

| I think it's not a bad idea. Those that called Mith a idiot, moron, etc are only reflecting those words back on themselves. While I may not participate, I probably will read the threads just because it's an interesting way to think about things in order to be able to debate your own position better. |

| Man, this is tougher than I thought. I don't like the NDP but neither do I support the war in Iraq so my opposite persona would have to be an NDP supporter (NDP = super far left Canadian party BTW) that believes that we're fighting the terrorists over there so that we don't have to over here. Maybe it's impossible to be a complete polar opposite of oneself. |
