Could someone tell me the best and easiest way to network my Computer to my TV. I want to play DIVX videos on my big screen instead of watching them on my computer.
I have heard this can be done with old XBOX, how about the new 360.
Also there is the new iTV from apple, but is this only with itunes related material , can it play bittorent downloads.
What is the best option. Please tell me.
Thanks |

There are tons of devices "appliances" being made and sold in Korea by local manufacturers that have an internal hard drive and all input outputs and menu to use it. Then you just download your media on the box (Divix, AVI, whatever...) and play it on your TV with remote control, etc. Same like AppleTV....dunno why AppleTV even came out or this features with Xbox (unless you like to play games as well). |

When you say download to the box do you mean directly to the box or to the computer first and then to the box. Also are they able to network between the computer and the Box.
Do you have any names of devices or websites.
Thanks |

I recently put in a video card in my computer that has TV out. It comes with instructions on how to hook the computer up to a monitor and a TV at the same time and also has all the wiring to do so.
ATI All In Wonder video card. |

I would like to do this by network through the apartment provided computer wires in the walls. I don't want any visible cables or wires in the Apartment.
Thanks |

I'm pretty sure you can do that with an Xbox (original). You upload the video files through the network from your PC onto the Xbox HDD. Then you can play them on your Xbox....Maybe you can even stream...Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm jealous that you have a network connection in your livingroom. I just got a new place and it has connectors everywhere BUT my livingroom, where I need it
Good luck |

Hm, if you go to Yongsan you can buy those appliances and you can select what HDD you want in them. Some of them are devices-only and you buy your own HDD and put inside them, which gives you more flexibility to buy a cheaper and larger drive then being it built-in.
I do not know what is out there now, but as of Fall 2006 when I last saw and looked at the device like that, you would download the movie from your PC using USB 2.0 or Firewire and then you would carry the device (small, light, easy) to the other room where your TV is to play. Maybe now they support wireless streaming from PC to it to play.
What I would like though is Tivo functionality where I can record something on it for later viewing, etc. And if they have commericals detection and skipping feature. In Tivo case, device gets updated schedule to know when to record, etc....but we can't do that here.
And one thing: I dunno what's the point in downloading a movie from internet to your PC. Then stream (or download) the same movie from PC to this kind of a device (AppleTV or other mentioned here) and then finally playing it on the TV? I mean inter-house transfer step should be skipped. Why not download directly to the device, bypassing the PC? So this streaming functionality is useless IMHO. |

The device your thinking of is an HTPC (Home-theater PC). With one of these you could download and play directly on your TV. However, HTPCs can be a real hassle to setup, are ugly and noisy sitting in your livingroom (except some really expensive cases), have a VERY LOW WAF (wife-acceptability factor).
A device that "just simply" connects to the internet and bittorrent and just downloads and plays movies...? I don't think so. You need a PC for that. |

Get a DIVX player with an ethernet(network) port. There are a few :

Yes, you can connect the xbox360 to a media center pc using Transcode360 :

What do you mean by bittorent downloads? If its DIVX/TS/WMV/etc stuff then it won't work. iTV will only work with a couple of proprietory formats known only to Apple. It is the most limiting media player I know (like the iPod video).

Get the Apple. Everybody says so. |

Which one, the first or second?
The first one is a very new model, I've no idea on the price but I'm guessing the prices for both to be around 280,000-300,000 won without the hard disk. |

Here in Canada I connect a cable (which I found lying around my parents house) to my laptop and connect the other end somewhere behind the TV... I push Alt+Fsomething and what is on the laptop screen appears on TV. I use this to watch stuff I've downloaded on the TV, although I do have to sit near the speakers I connect to the laptop (I'm sure there's a way to get the laptop's sound to go over the TV).
Will this work when I get to Korea? Are the TVs pretty much the same there? |

I know that Skylife now has a set top box that does this, and if you have the money, LG LCD TVs have a built in HDD so that one can digitally record. |
