OK so first off, yes I've tried the search function It won't even load for me to see results.
SO......Can anyone direct me towards a listing or a map of public schools or even all schools in the Seoul area?
People keep telling me not to use a recruiter so I guess that means I should start hitting the street, but I'm not sure exactly where to go.
Any help?? |

Most public schools use a recruiter.
1. You don't know where the schools are.
2. You are on foot.
3. You (probably) don't speak Korean.
4. Money and time are going to become a problem at some point.
Do you really have a choice about using a recruiter?
Recruiters will try to pressure you into taking one of the jobs they have available. You just have to be firm about refusing to take a job that is not suitable to you. |

Some people make me so glad I'm the only foreigner at my public school.
Every subway station has a neighborhood map, and those maps list the local public schools - if you're serious about pounding the pavement, that's one place to start.
However my guess is that you'd probably be better off going to the SMOE and talking to someone there. The majority of people working with GEPIK or EPIK (the majority of people working public school jobs - and someone will correct me if I'm wrong) don't have contracts with the schools, their contracts are with the provincial offices.
FWIW I used a recruiter - it takes a leap of faith and a little savvy but it wasn't my first time doing it and it may not be the last.

Recruiters are a funny breed.
I was dealing with a very professional lady until I confirmed that I couldn't make the 2nd and would only be able to start a week later. She hasn't replied to any emails since.
Her loss not mine. |

| Have you ever been to Korea before? Don't start 'hitting the street'. You'll only create confusion and look like a fool. What would happen in America if a monolingual Mexican went around to schools asking if they wanted to hire him to teach Spanish? If you're not already in Korea roll the dice with SMOE. If you are, get a new email address, contact every recruiter you can find telling them you only want Seoul Public School positions, get ready to delete 30+ hogwan offers every day, and then delete your account when you've got the job you want. |

First off Yu Bum Suk, did you happen to read my reply when I said I've been here for over a year? Although the new e-mail address is interesting, wouldn't they be able to put two and two together since I've already sent in my resume and photo though?
Second, all I asked for was a map of schools, meaning if you have one let me know, if not, smart ass comments will be met with smart ass replies. |

Yes, of course recruiters could pick up on the fact that the same applicant has two email addresses. The point was that if you got a new one just for contacting recruiters, your primary email account wouldn't be spammed with offers you don't want. I'm sorry if that's not a useful tip.
At any rate, what good would a map of public schools do? You could walk through any residential neighbourhood and simply stumble across more public schools than you could possibly pester and confuse in one day anyways. Something like a list of public schools and their contact information, like what my friend in Seoul has, would be far more useful. However I doubt he'd appreciate me trying to put him in touch with someone of your attitude (and intellect). |

It was actually a sincere question since I saw a post earlier about public schools and the SMOE trashing applications they see more than once.

Oh, I'm sorry, I guess I didn't mention that I could very easily get a KATUSA to come along with me to assist in any language problems, but then again I guess you just ASSumed that I hadn't thought that far ahead.
