So I finish a job on may 22 and I have heard there is 5 days grace from when my e2 runs out to leave the country...I start my new job on the 28th...Can my new job organise my visa so I can fly to Japan and sort it out in between or does my new job have to wait for me to finish my old job in order to start the ball rolling with immigration...hope this makes sense..noone can seem to give me a definite answer and everyone has a different expert opinion. |

I wasn't going to answer but there has been over 35 views and no response.
I will answer in general terms - a search by you will yield better answers (in other word, same questions have been asked/answered in other threads). Please don't take this as a slam, just a suggestion.
You can go to immigration and get a 30 day extension.
You cannot get a new visa until the old one expires. If your new school is on top of what they need to do, they could have the new visa issuance number the day after your old visa expires. Then you can go to Japan and get your new visa. |

If the date on your ARC is up, the only person that can apply for your extention is your current employer but if you have a plane or ferry ticket dated to leave just after your ARC expires, immigration will give you an extention up to that date free of charge. Otherwise, the date on your ARC is the day you have to leave Korea. If you don't get an extention or leave on that day, you will be fined by immigration at the airport or ferry terminal when you try to leave Korea.

Your new school won't even be able to start the process to get you a new E-2 visa until your current one expires unless you have a letter of release, which means you are being let out of you previous contract early. They may be able to put the paperwork in at an immigration office early but immigration won't start processing your paperwork until your current E-2 visa expires.
The only time you can get a new E-2 visa with no gaps between them, is if you're re-signing with the same school. If that's the case, then you also don't have to do a visa run to Japan. |
