Or a country where English is spoken (such as India or Malaysia) and the applicant MUST have an English degree. The countries quoted above can get a visa with ANY degree.

Is this new? I've never heard of anyone getting an E-2 without being a citizen of the aforementioned countries. Do you have any links to support this? This information could be very good news for a friend of mine.

Thanks

If you are the from the Phillipines or India, it can be a problem. There are people from the Phillipines working, but they make far less than people from the countries that were mentioned. They are often not interested even in Koreans who are Korean Americans because they have a Korean face. Korean Americans, however, get plenty of work and often get lots of gigs tutoring. I am sure there are some good English speakers in the Phillipines, but it is pretty tough to get a job in Korea if you don't have the look they are looking for or the nationality. I am speaking in general terms.

You mentioned nationality. You might find these articles interesting.

No, it's not new. It's just there are so few who come from those countries to teach, it's not as well-known.

Most of the Filipino/Indian teachers on E2s (because they have their English degrees) take DRASTIC cuts in pay and living costs compared to us in exchange for DRASTIC increases in workloads. Many are paid around 1mill, but most get less than that, all for 140-160 hours a month. And no paid accommodation, either. Most of the ones I know or know of who have their E2s do phone or internet English. There are a very small few who teach at uni (working 30-35 hours a week).

FRANK, is it possible to answer the question regarding the source of info?

I don't have any links. I told you I KNOW people who are in this situation. I am not going to give you their names or the name of their uni. Rest assured, they ARE Filipino and they DO have an E2 visa.

No one is doubting your story or asking for names.
How well do you know them?
Do you know them well enough to ask the info so that it may be passed on to others?
If so, please do.
If not, don't.
