I hadn't heard anything about this film, but it happened to be playing at a convenient time so I went with a friend. I walked out feeling as if I'd been put through the wringer, but it was well worth it.

The plot is simple but powerful, and the themes, setting and acting are all very rich. The craftsmanship of the film is exquisite-- in particular there's a long take at the end of the movie that stunned me.

Politically, it's a very provocative movie and there's a lot to talk about there. I noticed a good many Biblical references, especially to do with names like Theo, Luke, Santos (the dog ) and Miriam.

On Salon.com, the reviewer called it "the bleakest film you'll ever want to see twice." Have you seen it? How did you feel about it? Did you find it predictable? What did it make you think about?

saw it, thought the scene with them eating dinner in front of Guernica was a nice touch, that and looking out the window to see a pink floyd album cover

i really liked the imagery of the future, cows burning in fields, mad max-like marauders, ever-present media. very big brother.
kermo i think i know what camera shot you're refering to, i like the spray of blood that doesn't get removed. very first person, which made it that much more intense.
i realized that i will be chester when i get to be that age. minus the facial hair, i hope. strawberry cough...

One thing puzzled me. Why does a society with no new births become so anti immigration? Seems a society like that would need the extra people.

I think that's what got to me about that movie, there was so much backstory that was so interesting, yet barely touched on

the ending.

Left me wanting, as I suppose most good stories should, but I would've liked to known what the plan was exactly...

Loved the drawn out battle scene... but yeah, more back story would've been nice...

I thought it was going to be cool movie from the trailers sadly I found it very boring.

I saw the movie and really liked it, but I did feel like I was missing something, especially at the end. I think I would like to read the book, but from the synopsis it sounds like quite a few things were changed for the movie. Still, it sounds like a good read.

saw this yesterday, great friggin movie. i thought it was so progressive that the first birth... ah, no, sorry, i dont want to give away anything. anyway, when they were on the bus going through the "refugee camp," did anyone notice in one of the cages the guy standing on the box w/a viel over his head, recreating that infamous POW image? i was trippin out.

Awesome flick, wish I coulda seen it on the big screen. Cinematography was incredible. Really gave you the feeling you were there.

I repeated the "Why the draconian immigration policy" question to my friend, and she replied that it must have been to suppress the Revolutionaries and prevent them from recruiting. Interesting theory.

i agree with wrench, i found this movie boring in parts and utterly ridiculous in others, particularly the end scene. i had high hopes, but was very disappointed.
clive owen was so wooden. he's my new nicholas cage.
