I was teaching in Nowon in an after school program. After lecturing, I gave class work. I made the rounds to ensure the students were producing. One wasn't and I asked why. He said he didn't have paper. I gave him paper. Five minutes later on the next round, he still wasn't producing. I asked why and he said he didn't have a pencil. I gave him one. Five minutes later on the next round, he still wasn't producing. The paper was wadded into a ball and and pencil was broken in half. He came real close to an encounter of the open hand kind.

Why stress over a little brat. Talk to the student's Korean homeroom teacher about his enthusiasm. If K-teacher care enough to do something about it fine, if not, fvckem.

I think you have much LARGER problems than that kid. Start by standing infront of the mirror and giving yourself a big Thump and Smack.

After that, begin the process of reflection.......

After many intermediary stages, I hope you might reach that final one. Forgiving the kid and forgiving yourself.

Yes don't you see the kid is you!
It's all your anxieties and failings manifested into a small boy.
You are your own father. Let your father go, he only did those things because he loved you. Your mother didn't stop him because she knew it would make you the person you are today. A truly remarkable being.

Talk to a Korean teacher, they're allowed (if not expected) to hit them.
But then again that was one kid out of how many?

Pull his chair out from under him. The chairs are for students; bums sit on the ground.

I know where the OP is coming from. Some kids just have no respect, worsened by the fact the K staff are completely unwilling to discipline them or call their parents in case they lose the customer.

I had a problem with one girl who was downright lazy and had a stinking attitude. One day, she uttered something in Korean that I didn't understand, but somewhere in the middle I heard 시발. I Dragged her out of class and took her to the director's office. The next day, she could barely walk, and her attitude had changed overnight.

Wrong.

십팔 is 18.

씹 is a sexual meaning.
팔 is to sell.

So technically 씹팔 means "Wh0re"

I hope you don't teach English like this. If you don't know the exact meaning...ask a Korean. People read English signs and laugh. Then they say "The should have asked a foreigner".

No I'm not Korean.

"THEY should have asked a foreigner".

You sure you're not Korean? Apparently you should ask a foreigner before you submit a post.

All Koreans recognize 18 as a reasonable substitution for the curse word in question - though it's not as fashionable as it once was. Why didn't you include that in your patronizing little lesson.

your explanation is very wrong. first of all, "팔" does not mean to sell. "팔다" means sell, but "팔" will never mean "sell" when it is by itself. "씨발" is used just like english "*beep*". there are many variations on the spelling and pronunciation. i could go into its etymology, but that would probably bore you.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with wanting to smack a kid! That's only human. So long as you don't actually do it, there is no larger problem that I can see.
