Mother wins dead son sperm case

The lawyer of an Israeli couple who won the right to use their dead son's sperm to inseminate a woman he never met says the case is a boost for family rights.
Irit Rosenblum told the BBC the landmark ruling meant family lines could continue even without the written consent of the male prior to death.

The dead man, soldier Keivin Cohen, was killed in the Gaza Strip in 2002.

A court ruled in favour of his parents who had the sperm extracted after his death, although he had not left a will.

"The drama is international, that mankind is able to continue after [a man's] death and his family can raise a new generation while he is no longer here," Ms Rosenblum said.

Reading stuff like this makes me think that the whole concept of family has got to go. People just act all nutty over some useless concept of continuing a family. How stupid.

I thought I had put that on the Current Events' section. I do admire, in a way, that a 25 year old woman wanted to carry on the line of a fallen soldier.

That sounds sick, twisted , and narcissistic to me. They should let their son rest in peace.

No, it's a boost for selfish idiots whose bloodlines are more important than everything else. Rolling Eyes

oh, novernae, bloodlines are more important than anything else. i only wish i had been born a boy so i could carry on the family name. my ovaries are willing and able to help dead people conceive children that they won't be present to father, help, or directly influence in any way.

by the way, i've got some land in North Korea i'd like to sell you.

Every culture is different. What the parents did may seem strange, but they wanted a grandson. They wanted someone to carry on the family line, and in Israel for some that is important, and he was a fallen soldier and a woman decided to oblige them. I wish I heard the woman volunteer's side of the story. Maybe she was a single gal who really wants a child to have and love, but she isn't married but this would seem like a great thing to her to tell her son he is the son of a fallen soldier. Just a thought. I suppose I might think it is a bit strange but not completely so. I hope it works out for the best of the woman and the child and maybe he will be a child of peace.

I don't think it seems strange. I can understand where they're coming from, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Cultural relativism can explain away a lot of evils in the world, but it does nothing to fix them, in fact it often hinders progress, and I'm glad people are coming to realise this (along with the moronic nature of PC).
As for the parents, if they had put the energy they put into the fight to use their son's genes (without his permission) into working towards peace, they could maybe have contributed to society and made a difference. Instead, they did something very selfish because culturally, family is more important that everyone else to them, as it is in most of the world.

Maybe you should check out land the land KWhitehead has in North Korea. You won't be able to worship your family, and instead you will have to worship the Dear Leader, but that's OK because it's the culture there.
