I've spent about 4 years teaching in Japan, and am now looking for a change of Asian scenery. Korea has always been in the back of my mind. Before I start sending out CV's randomly, a question:
In Japan the general consensus is that public school jobs (especially those not involving a middle-man dispatch company) offer better salary/benefits packages, better hours, better working conditions than private English conversation schools. Does the same hold true in Korea - generally?
Related to the above question: In Japan, the best entry-level teaching gig is the government-run JET Programme. Does Korea's EPIK Program have a similar status? Is the gold standard by which all public school jobs in Korea are judged?
Is there a prevailing opinion in the Korean ESL community regarding job placement agencies. Good? Bad? ESID?
Thanks. |

you're gonna get a lot of flack for posting this up since "There are a million threads on this already"
do a search for public vs. private and if that doesn't help you too much( since the search function sucks)
, do a search for threads under my name, I created one like it not long ago.
p.s. See people, this is how you handle a post like this one. |

Hi, and thanks for the advice. I actually did use the search function. But some of the info is outdated, some of it not of much use. My feeling is that working conditions change from year to year, sometimes month to month, and there are always new people with new experiences floating thru boards like this, so why not seek more, current opinions? You can never have enough feedback, right?
And as a pre-emptive strike against those who complain about old questions revisted, I'll say I do find it a bit perplexing that people tend to get upity about the repetitive nature of some of these threads. If newbie questions bug you, don't read it, bypass it, save your time. |
