I graduate May 10th this year and I want to work as soon as possible from when I graduate. I know it takes some time not only to get the copies of transcripts and diplomas (anyone know how long it usually takes for the uni to make copies of diplomas?) but also to process visa info, so my question is when should begin to apply for jobs and contacting recruiters so that I'm not wasting my time?

At my uni (USF) it takes about 3 weeks to process anything. Lots of red tape there, so I don't know if your situation is different.

What kind of job are you looking to apply for? From my experience, the entire process takes like 3 weeks, max. But that's with hagwons. I don't know about public schools, as far as when they are hiring.

USF. eh? I'm about 50 minutes south of Tampa right now, and went to Florida State. Hello to a fellow Floridian.

Why not get on your handy dandy telephone, call the registrar on campus and ask whoever answers the telephone? They will be able to tell you exactly when you can get copies of your diploma and transcripts. THEN you will know when you can begin applying for jobs.

As of now, I plan on going the hogwon approach. What I'm wondering is if there is any point in applying for jobs before I have the copies of my diploma or should I wait only until I have all the stuff. Would any of the places hire me before I get the copies of my diploma or would they not give me a second glance.

This is January. You won't be available until mid-May, so make that June 1. You are not going to find any hakwons hiring at this early date. No hakwon I've ever heard of thinks this far in advance. 10-15 minutes in advance, yes, but not 4 or 5 months.

Get one copy of your transcripts and mass produce them. Send them to recruiters and/or hakwons along about March and tell them you will graduate May 10 and will have your diploma and complete transcripts available after that date.
