Does anyone know anything about Banana Island hagwon near Gangnam-gu Office Station?
Good? Bad?
I noticed cameras in the classroms which puts me off. Should it?
Cheers. |

I don't know anything about that hagwon, but I worked 2 years in a hagwon where there were cameras and monitors for each classroom in the lobby.
It bothered me at first, but not for long. After all, if you don't have anything to hide, there's no problem.
Actually, I was happy that we had cameras at one point. Once a Korean supervisor came to "observe" my classroom (surprise!). She told me she'd be there for 5 minutes. After half an hour, I asked her to leave. I told her I didn't feel comfortable and my students either. I don't like feeling like someone is watching me. I told her there were cameras for that purpose and to use them. One or two weeks later, after I had finished my afternoon classes, she told me that she taped me teaching and would take a look at it. I was fine with that and thought it was much better that way. She took a look at it and I only got good comments from it.
I remember another teacher "talking" with the Korean supervisor about one student whose mother had called to complain about something the foreign teacher supposedly had said or done to her son. That guy simply told the supervisor to take a look at the tape to see if what the boy had said was true if she didn't believe him. I don't know how it ended up, but cameras can be nice at times. At least, I like them better than someone watching me in my classroom. |
