I'm going back to Canada to live in a few weeks. I've been away from there since 1999. I have a pile of questions.
I am thinking -- should I ask my questions on Dave's Off-Topic or Technology forum? But it seems absurd that I'd have to use an English teacher's forum in Korea to find information about Canada, though I guess a lot of posters here are Canadian who'd know the answer to my questions.
Is there not a "Life in Canada" forum somewhere that serves people in Canada in the same way that eslcafe forums serve ex-pats living here?
Sample questions:
- how do the cell phone companies in Canada operate? Who hooks up cell phones in BC? What's a good one to get?
- what are the options for cable/internet?
I know I can search google, but it takes time filtering through all the ads and misinformation. It often seems that forums are a faster way to get the needed info. |

Life sucked for me in Canada thats why I am out here.. I love Canada but I wasn't happy there.
BC cellphones are owned by Telus and Rogers. They are expensive compared to Korea.
Options for internet are pretty good. DSL through Telus and Cable through Rogers. I suggest DSL. Rogers watches you more.
I am not aware of any Canada boards. |

| Telus is now the phone company in BC and I believe Roger's does most cable and Internet connections. They still have the same silly CRTC regulations that force you to purchase a package of five stations you don't want to get the one you do. If it's possible to get a satalite feed you'd be way better off. As for cell phones, it's basically a matter of going to the shopping mall and asking around for the best deal. Pay-as-you-go plans are best if you don't plan to use it much. |
