OK

Bikes from Japan are extremely cheap and far better than the Korean brands (I like the korean bikes but facts are facts). Japanese bikes cost way too much money here in Korea. You can buy a bike in Japan for 1/3 to 1/2 less than you can in Korea.

I want to import bikes from Japan. I'm trying to find information about importing them but at the moment it's difficult to find.

So far I found that you must have the vechicle registered 3 months priro to shipping it to Korea.
You must pay about 30% duty.
The bike must be tested for emmisions and the loudness of the engine prior to being registered in Korea.
You can't sell the bike for three years once it's registered in Korea.

So far it isn't goodm but I think things have changed since 2002.

Does any one know where I can get detailed up to date information? Has any one ever imported bikes from Japan?

I've heard that you can legally import bikes through a broker...anyone know more about this?

thanks

A little off topic, but I'd still like to know...

Can an American/Canadian/Aussie etc. Fly to Japan, buy a bike and bring it over on a ferry or have it shipped? Would we be paying huge taxes on that? Is there a better way, ie broker? I'm just interested in one bike, not a lot of bikes like the OP.

Thanks and thanks.

I'm interested to know as well! If the import tax (and the hassle afterwards) is not too high, I might want to import one bike too. Umm, anyone know some good Japanese bike sites I should browse through?

I'm also interested in other sites for finding bikes and clothes here in Korea. Anyone know of any?
