Make sure you remember that the consulate will be closed on the 1st, so no picking up or dropping off on that day.
But no, not going.

I got stuck in Fukuoka for five days and had a wicked time. Dunno if you know, but a really good place to meet foreigners and the Japaneses who like them is "the Happy Caulk" bar in Tenjin. Unlike Dave's, they are permitted to spell 'caulk' properly. There is a good clean cheap hotel right near there as well, and a couple other nice-ish pub-stlye bars whose names elude me. Quite close to Tenjin station. Find a foreigner and ask them, they all know it like the back of their, uh, caulk.
The coolest stuff is on the other side of Tenjin though, where all the bars are about the size of an officetel, have few foreigners in, and are gimmicky and cool as all git out. Especially check out "Children Station" if you can find it, it's all weird toys and magic trick props, and the barman does the best, craziest card tricks I've ever seen. Friendly bunch too; seemed like everytime I went into a purely Japanese hipster bar, I made friends with people and was given presents. They like ignorant gumbooted foreign goofballs like me, I guess. I think it was largely because I was packing a Japanese-English dictionary and memorized how to say "I am an ignorant gumbooted foreigner goofball, and I don't belive your whiskey is any good so you have to buy me some to prove it."
Well, maybe not quite memorized... |
