So, tomorrow I'm going to a jjimjilbang with my workmates.

I would really rather not take out my nipple piercing, (because after being out for a couple of hours it becomes fucking painful to put back in) but I don't want to offend or horrify anyone.

I'm expected to get stared at a lot regardless... but, I don't want some ajumma yelling at me for being dirty or whatever...

Any thoughts!?

i've got a hood ring, and because i go brazilian, it's quite visible. i go to the sauna weekly, and it hasn't drawn any huge response. there have been some double takes, but that comes with being a whitey at the sauna. don't worry too much about it. just don't act embarrassed or shy, that'll likely draw more attention.

I'm a guy. I've been to saunas more than 200 times (I used to go every day). Didn't get stared at too much. On *one* occasion a guy grabbed it and said "Very Good!!". Most people don't care. Or rather, they will assume that you have it because you're American and all Americans have them. (I'm not American, but people often assume it..)

I've got both nipples and my hood pierced, and I shower everyday with the Koreans and Chinese teachers I work with at lunch (after working out). They generally stare, sometimes quietly point and laugh at me, but they don't freak out. When I had my physical, the nurse kind of jumped a bit and said "I am suprising!"

Just walk tall and ignore it. Smile when they smile at you. No one means any harm. If you were the type of girl who was overly modest, you wouldn't have had this procedure anyway. You'll get some looks for your breasts anyway. Maybe you can amuse them -good. Maybe you're the wierdo foreigner - even better. We're the subject of curiousity anyway, so let them be curious. My only caution is, if you are going with friends you don't know should specifically tell them first, so they aren't freaked out suddenly.

i have both nipples done and the worst I got is someone asked me if I was russian once. They tend to leave you alone in the sauna...unless you run into the ones who want a free english lesson (which is rare)

There is no stigma against piercing in this country. Now if you had a tattoo it would be a different story, because when you get a tattoo it actually pierces the skin, which is illegal. Piercings are better though, because they apparently don't pierce the skin.
