BEIRUT: Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Friday urged his Hizbullah counterpart to call off a nearly two-month-old protest, saying that the ongoing campaign to bring down the government would inevitably fail. "If you proceed with your protest through democratic means it won't lead you to achieving [your desired] results because you cannot alter the balance of power," Geagea said, addressing Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah during a news conference. "If you go beyond democratic means, that will lead you to civil war, in which you will also not achieve your declared objective."
While expressing confidence that Nasrallah had no intention of leading the country to civil war, Geagea said "the Hizbullah leader's behavior will without a doubt lead to war."
The LF leader said the general strike held Tuesday by the Hizbullah-led opposition "was the beginning of a coup to be carried out by the opposition throughout Lebanon."

[I believe Hezbollah is desperate and trying to hold on to as much power as possible, but they are only angering more people.] |
