Is this possible? Can I go to Yongsan or Technmart and and purchase a new laptop that has English already installed and without a Korean keyboard?

Have you done this?

Yes you can. PM me if you want directions to a good place with pretty good prices where my friend got one 2 weeks ago.

Why don't you want the Korean laptop? It's no different except it's got Hangeul on it as well as the English alphabet. I can't see why it's a big deal. But it's your book.

You might have a harder time getting a laptop with a legal English o/s and driver CD if you buy smaller brands. I don't much like HP but most of the legit sellers can set you up with a legal copy of XP. I'm not at all sure what the problem is with the keyboard. Being in Korea, it is rather helpful to type in hangul at times. You do know the Korean computers also have a normal QWERTY keyboard with all those comforting English letters, right? If the little hangul things on the keyboard so upset you, you could always get a new one installed when you get back to North America.

Just make sure you get both the english o/s and the english driver cd.

If the OP gets an IBM laptop the latest drivers can easily be downloaded from their splendid website.

A black Sharpie would work well to eliminate the offending characters, too...
