Of leaving my lame-ass village and heading up to Seoul for the Gyeonggi-do public school positions. The loneliness and boredom are really getting to me
After hearing another guy will be leaving this county after 4 months for a uni job up in Seoul, the thought popped up in my head.
Would it be worthwhile or is it just better to stay put and see how long I can last down here?
Other than the financial implications, would it look bad to any prospective employer that I ran out on my school just 1 month in? I have taught in Japan and did complete my contract there.
Any comments, suggestions are appreciated.

I think it might look kind of bad to just run out after only one month.
And if you've only been there for a month, I would consider giving it some time. I was unhappy quite often when I first moved to my tiny little town, but I've really grown to love it. If you can make friends with the Koreans in the area, I think it is really worth your time to enjoy the rural lifestyle. It's not as loud and rushed, and you can ride your bike around in the countryside. Plus you can always go to bigger cities for the weekends, travel is so inexpensive here. |

If you have a visa with this school the only place you will be running is to the border unless your employer gives you a letter of release. It will be impossible to work in a public school in Gyounggi Do without first being released from your previous employer.
If you don't have a visa with the school, then pack your things and go. Your employer can't do a thing about it either. Of course it would be courtious for you to at least notify them beforehand.
I am assuming you are a first time teacher and as such probably signed a contract you are regretting. I don't blame you for wanted to bolt. The countryside is not for everyone, certainly not for me.
Will it look bad on your resume? Sure, but then who says you have to put it on in the first place? It has only been a month which is basically nothing for experience. |
