Bought my first MAC this weekend. Had originally planned to wait and buy a MacBook PRO when the new operating system is released... however, I couldn't wait since I plan on traveling for the month of February. Thus, I bought the 13.3 inch MacBook with plans to trade up later when the new OS comes out...

First observations... why the heck didn't I make the switch earlier...???? I've used laptops (PC) for almost 15 years (IBM, Dell, Toshiba, HP)... they don't compare. I know it is early yet for final judgments, but this little computer is light, small, sleek, quiet and pretty fast. Moreover, the operating system is easy and friendly. I think I'll never go back.............................................

I'm glad I got the 13 inch... the portability is great. However, I do a lot of photo editing, so I may trade in the long run. In the mean time, this little Apple is half the weight of my HP Pavilion ZD8000.....................

There's a romance brewing here......

I am a bit confused, why do you need to buy a new computer for the new OS? Just install it when it comes out. Also, what can a PRO offer for photo editing that the MacBook can't? I use Gimp, it's free and it works great.

1. They usually offer new hardware specs at the time of an OS release. Therefore, I wanted to wait and just get the OS / Hardware at the same time

2. The PRO offers a faster processor, more RAM, and a larger screen... the 13 inch isn't so great for photo editing. I have GIMP and it is great as a portable application, but I usually run Photoshop.

When I travel without my laptop, I carry GIMP as a portable application on my IPOD. I stop in a computer cafe and copy photos from my Nikon D100 to my IPOD for storage and use GIMP for minor, quick edits.

Bought the 13 inch MabBook myself, with the 2.0 gHz and it's great. Enjoy. Might want to look into a protective case for it, it's white (unless you paid the black tax) and prone to getting dirty. I've got a cover for the outside as well as a keyboard cover.
