I recently bought a new desktop computer. It is a Dell, and a middle level model.
I subscribe to high speed internet services but am not getting much speed at all. My computer says I'm connected at 100Mbps.
You tube vids take forever to load (if they are at all long, they more often than not only load half way).
My torrents download at 500 - 800 B/s using Azureus. And that is for torrents with hundreds and hundreds of seeds. It takes weeks for a single episode of tv to download.
What is wrong? I have a good computer and a great internet package but get dial-up speeds.
FYI, I have a adsl modem. |

Upload speed: 213.10
Surfspeed inside Singapore: 407.25
Latency: 596 milliseconds

Why is your location listed as Singapore? Are you in Korea? If you are in Korea then take the speed test I linked for a more accurate result. |

Well, the important part is the download speed. You got 940,112 bps, or 94mbps. That's very good. Even in Korea that would be a very good connection.
My speeds are:Download Speed: 89.6 Mbps (11.2 MB/s, 11,199,315.4 cps)
Upload Speed: 92.8 Mbps (11.6 MB/s, 11,601,510.4 cps)
So I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with your connection. Sorry, but I can't think of a reason why your speed test gets such good results but your browser and bittorrent rates are so slow. I'm stumped. |

Are you using a wireless router? If so, then you might need to forward your port... |

Perhaps your ISP is throttling the ports commonly used for these programs. Try changing port setting in the "options" menu. Heck, maybe the gov't in Singapore is trying to combat piracy somehow? You can't even chew gum there.... |

How would I change ports? Which options?? I'm very computer illiterate.
Thanks! |

changing ports...
In Utorrent, you go to Options/Preferences/Connection, and it tells you the port number. You just type in a new number (in the 20000-50000 range), and hit enter.
I'm not sure about Azureus, but it should be something similar. Or try Utorrent - I find that it works better on my computer than Azureus. |

Hey,
I've tried changing the ports on Azureus a few times now. Makes no difference. In addition, I switched to and back from Utorrent. Made no difference. Utorrent worked worse in fact.
Though, Azureus will tie up my whole system sometimes. |

That's Singapore! One of the most internet-policed state in the world! I used to live in Singapore a few years ago so things might have changed. Have you tried downloading via torrents? Any improvements in speed?
Try going on a local forum like expatsingapore.com or something like that and ask there! Good luck. |
