Get them started right away. Set a deadline a week before the event to submit scripts so you can edit them. Then make recordings for them on their MP3s. Make it as open-ended and fun as possible, and allow them to go in groups of 2-4 if it makes them feel more comfortable.

Potential topics:

- their city / hometown
- plastic surgery
- a famous Korean
- a short skit
- an issue like smoking or gangs
- English slang
- American school life
- a Korean food
- someone who's influenced their lives
- difference between American and Korean culture

That's a tough one. I know they will need plenty of structure, that's for sure.

I have a presentation cloze (students just fill in the blanks) which is about giving a presentation arguing the advantages/disadvantages of a topic. This could be modified to use for speech purposes. Find it on the teaching of SETI link of my site. Also in the audio visual section I have a full compliment of videos about giving speeches/presentations. These videos are very helpful, clear and teacher friendly.

But I would design my own cloze if I were you . Something along the lines of

Good ________ ladies and gentlemen. My name is .......... and today I'm going to tell you about ________________. Etc.....

That's pretty cool stuff. Excellent resource for this.... Thanks!

I have found that having students do some form of public speaking/presentation is immensely beneficial. As much for the language itself as for the confidence they get regarding their control and delivery of that language.
