I don't know if this really qualifies as a current event or not, but somehow it seems that the issue at least should be relevant.

If you click on the above link, then scroll down there are links to various articles relating to the title of this thread.
I haven't gone through them all, in fact I only glanced at the one from Japan. It caught my eye because I find the Japanese seem to be on the forefront with research and new technologies.
Anyway, my point being....
Is there any hope for these new technologies, or are we doomed to be slave to the "oil-economy" forever?
