I came on-line tonight with the intention of posting something cool that happened to me yesterday, but I didn't know how to do it, and then got distracted by Groundhog Day and my adventures (only slightly exaggerated ) at the chicken restaurant...
Yesterday I got an e-mail from a former student. Robin was one of my students when I was a high school teacher way back when, eons ago before I came to Korea. She's 40 now. (!!!) I lost contact with her when I came to Korea (this was before the internet: Note to the under 30 crowd--we did not use stones and carve runes in them; that was before my day.)
Robin was this VERY intense high school kid who was an ACE guard in girls basketball and sharp as a tack in class. I had her in every class I taught at the time...US history, Psych and Gov't. She was also a very cool person. Her 'famous' characteristic was that she was a vegetarian and an animal rights FANATIC before most people knew what those were.
She graduated and became an under-cover agent for PETA, infiltrating rat's nest places that put nasty chemicals in rabbits' eyes, etc. so chicks could look cute for guys. Shabby stuff.
Anyway, I had lost contact with her. But she called up my old Mom and got my e-mail address and sent me this:
"You know, I use you as a guage of my civil type beliefs. If I'm in a certain situation, I think what you might do. I have another person that I think of when thinking about animal-rights type issues. Instead of what would Jesus do, it's what would 'Ya-ta' do?"
How cool is that?
[I've been bustin' my buttons since I read that yesterday morning, wanting to share it with someone. You are elected.] |

Did you ever thought that you might her secret of " To sir with love " ?
The reason I say this is....
When I was a high school student, we had a German teacher ( He was a korean ) who just graduated Seoul National University, so girls treated him like a green bean.
My school was all girls high school, he was somewhat shy and had a hard time to handle students who were few years younger than him.
I had very special feeling toward him ( I have to say this was my first love ), but I kept all my feeling inside, never showed or expressed.
After graduate college, Just before I leave korea I decided to see how he was doing and I found where he was teaching ( It was boys high school ), I visited school where he was teaching, he was very surprised and was such happy to see me and he remembered many things about me. He said he married a couple years ago.
After I marry, I sent him my wedding picture, I am sure he was shock because the guy in picture was a white boy |
