I'm sitting here this morning, perusing Dave's and Patsy Cline (Too Many Secrets) comes up in rotation on iTunes, and suddenly, I need some bourbon. You can't really listen to Patsy Cline without drinking.

What other performers do you know whose songs just seem to require a drink? And is it a specific drink (Patsy requires bourbon; nothing else will do)?

I recognize that this may turn into a country music thread, but other choices will be acccepted

Well, there's this little country called Ireland......and the musicians there like to make a kind of music which compliments a jar or two.

Check out The Pogues, The Dubliners, Planxty, Christ Moore et al for good drinking music. And I don't just mean rowdy, jumping up and down stuff. All those Irish folk mastered the moody ballad too.

All music that I like is conducive to drinking. Punk music, hell yeah. Reggae and ska, a beer really helps. Bebop and cocktail jazz, get me a drink.

Spirit of the West- "Home for a Rest"
It's a sure way to find out how many Canadians are in the room. Just play this song and look around to see which ones are suddenly acting Irish.

Quote:

You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month, I've been drunk since I left
These so-called vacations will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink I need home for a rest.

We arrived in December and London was cold
We stayed in the bars along Charing Cross Road
We never saw nothin' but brass taps and oak
Kept a shine on the bar with the sleeves of our coats

CHORUS:
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a week
I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations
Will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink
I need home for a rest
Take me home....

Euston Station the train journey North
In the buffet car we lurched back and forth
Past old crooked dykes through Yorkshire's green fields
We were flung into dance as the train jigged and reeled

- CHORUS -

By the light of the moon, she'd drift through the streets
A rare old perfume, so seductive and sweet
She'd tease us and flirt, as the pubs all closed down
Then walk us on home and deny us a round

You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month
I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations
Will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink
I need home for a rest
Take me home....

The gas heater's empty, it's damp as a tomb
The spirits we drank now ghosts in the room
I'm knackered again, come on sleep take me soon
And don't lift up my head 'till the the twelve bells at noon

You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month
I've been drunk since I left
And these so-called vacations
Will soon be my death
I'm so sick from the drink
I need home for a rest
Take me home....

When drunk I have the uncontrollable urge to listen to Genesis. Rarely when sober, but put a few beers in me and suddenly I'm singing "JESUS HE KNOWS ME AND HE KNOOOOOOWS I'M RIGHT! I'VE BEEN TALKING TO JESUS ALL MY LIFE!!!"

The hip, normally not a big fan but if I hear them in a bar (even worse if they play more than one in a row) the real drinking begins. G n' R and STP also get me in the mood to drink copious amounts.

I tend to break-out some Aussie music from the 80s/90s. Mostly Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel. Worth listening to if you're not familiar with their stuff.

The chisel is great as is Jimmy Barnes (for the uninitiated, he is like an aussie springsteen), my bro introduced me to a lot of aussie tunes after he lived there for a while. Good stuff.

I also forgot that The Mad Caddies (punk/Ska) and Rancid also seem to get me riled up for some drinks.

Not to mention "Whiskey River (Take My Mind)"

Here in Western Canada, AC/ DC + too much beer = big bonfire party.

Sadly, rawiri, you seem not to understand what a 'classic' is. Timeless, you know.

EDIT: NOTE TO SOME: You are forgetting to say what you drink with this music. I mean, is it all soju tunes?

I like drinking beer to the Trews. And I'm not even Canadian.
