It's funny the posts that contain the same complaints that could be true elsewhere, maybe more so in...

Always the same, loud adjummas and adjassis (I know my Korean to English spelling sucks), while true, it's just the opposite in western countries. It's always the loud and obnoxious teen to 30's.

About driving crazy. Have you driven in LA or New York recently?

Motorcycles and scooters. Same and if ever in New York beware of the cyclists.

Cheating hakwon owners. Cheaters everywhere and in every business REGARDLESS where you are from. Don't you read the papers or watch dateline NBC?!?!

Visa and immigration issues. Have you wondered or checked out the US policy for these relevant laws. Even affecting US citizens of the good ole' USA.

Drunks. Just watch a 'Girls Gone Wild' video. Or any FOX special.

Trash, vomit, stink. Don't go into any major American downtown.

I am not smashing on the USA-It's a great country. But everything is the same in every country. You could complain and moan until you get hoarse.

Just funny why folks keep on keeping on about Korea.

That's true. Because you can always toss in a comment about how soft people are if they think Korea is hard living.

Then sit back and watch the whiners frothing at the mouth as they madly type away attempting to refute what was just said.

Entertainment and more interactive then watching TV at least (not that that's saying much)

I think there is alot of whining here due to culture shock, but NO, the issues you mentioned are NOT the same in every country. Every single issue you mentioned has a unique aspect to it that is DIFFERENT from the USA or more extreme here in Korea.

There are homeless people in Calcutta and L.A. To say it's the same is a joke.

Complaining is the expat's main privilege. How could we cultivate our sense of superiority without it?

If you don't complain, you can claim superiority over the complainers who are cultivating their sense of superiority over the locals. You're the best of the best!

I've lived in Canada and America and travelled to over 30 countries and have seen so many things, likeable and not-so-likeable, here that I never have anywhere else. I call it Planet Korea for a reason.

If there's one thing that really distinguishes Korea from the rest of the world it's their hyper-sensitivity to the opinions of outsiders that exists right alongside their apathey to the opinions of outsiders. I really, really can't get a grip on this. Why is it so important for a nation to prove itself if said nation is completely incapable of responding to suggestions of how it could be better perceived?

Because most Canadians think they're the greatest society in world history because they only other country they know about is America.

But really, in over 25 years in Canada I never once saw a guy pissing in the showers at the gym or blow-drying his balls, told I couldn't see a hotel room because I might not want it after seeing it, had strangers come up and tell me how to eat my food, or ever asked or heard another Canadian ask a foreigner if they knew that Canada has four seasons. There's a difference between a national inferiority complex that stems from being just like one's neighbour vs. one that stems from having almost nothing in common with anyone else.
