Penguin books is sponsoring a group project to write a novel, using the wiki method:

Man, 20,000 self styled authors all editing each other's words. There's gonna be flame wars that would make even me wince.

If I recall, Amazon.com tried something like this years and years ago. Although not wiki style. I believe it was a mystery novel. They contracted some established writer to write the first chapter and then the last. People would submit additional chapters. I have no idea how they weened out the submissions.

The whole projected died quietly.
