I took the plunge to answer the question: Is the water really unsafe to drink?
I made a cup of tea using hot water straight from the tap.
Will keep you updated on whether I get a stomach malady, cholera or dysentary.
If you don't hear from me at all, you may assume I have died suddenly. |

| I've been making tea and coffee from boiled tap water every day for the last eight months. It's fine if you boil it. |

I aim to find out if it's fine if you don't boil it. One hour from go time, and I feel fine. I'm going to head to bed, and if I don't die in my sleep, will post an update when I get up. |

| Don't sweat it archer. For the first 3 years here I made boiled water from the tap and washed my veges. No problem. If you plan on staying awhile get yourself a water filter/machine of some kind. |

If the water doesn't bother me, I won't need one... |

Why play with your health, buddy. The heavy metals build up in the fatty tissue and can cause problems years later. It is not like it is VX gas with a 20 sec kill time.
*****What the hell....I drank some and now it is 20 min later, Dear God! Drink all you want...ALL YOU WANT. There are too many people in the world and one less would be just fine. I can see you years from now with lead poisoning saying "I don't understand how it could have happened, doctor. duh". |

Even if you boil it though, it still has that nasty sulfurish taste, or whatever it is. It's gross. I grew up in the country on well water, so I know nasty water when I taste it. My roommate last year said when he boiled the water, it tasted fine to him. I'd have to go behind him and pour all the water he just boiled out o the kettle, so I could fill it with my water. I am having to buy bottled water like every 2 or 3 days at my local mom and pop market. |

| I drink the water. It tastes fine, never had any problems. I don't worry about heavy metal cuz I figure we're all being polluted out of our skullz here anyway. |

It's like the madcow disease. You won't know the effect until after 7 - 10 year later. Good luck. |

I've been using it to make tea and coffee for about five years now. I volunteer to be the guinea pig. In another couple of years, we should know if it's safe or not. |

Little bits of water are good for you.
you actually swallow a fair bit whilst showering.
Builds up a nice strong immune system.
If you are really wanting to get a wickedly strong immune system try licking subway seats.
my mate did it in London and was sick of a week or so. However he has never been sick from doing it again.
Not sure if he ever did do it again though. |

oh, and if you have unboiled tapwater in china, you'd best let the assorted sediment settle. and never drain the glass, you'll get a mouthful of crud.
edit: actually, that goes for the boiled stuff as well... |
