I'm helping a friend oragnise an 80's night He needs some help with music. I don't remember too much of the 80s myself (well definitely not the early 80s), and need some help recommending songs to play. Nothing too slow. More disco/rock/punk.
My friend told me that Stevie Wonder is coming to play in Seoul soon!!!! Anyone else hear about this? he couldnt give me any more info. |

All that D'sB has mentioned, plus:
early Elvis Costello
Dire Straits (not to danceable, but what the hey)
later Marvin Gaye (see how I used grammar to avoid the 'late' joke there)
The Pretenders
Robert Cray (for some good blues)
Paul Simon (Graceland, Rhythm of the Saints albums)
Sam Phillips (The Indescribable Wow was released in 89)
Michael Jackson (lest we forget, Thriller was huge)
Clifton Chenier and the Red Hot Lousiana Band (for some zydeco; won their only Grammy in the 80s)
U2
REM
10,000 Maniacs
Nick Lowe
Rockpile
Dave Edmunds
Warren Zevon (perhaps not all that danceable, though see Even a Dog Can Shake Hands or Leave My Monkey Alone. But he's a genius, so include him)
Holly and the Italians
Kid Creole and the Coconuts
David Bowie |

Don't forget:
Jane Child
Terence Trent D'Arby
Simple Minds
The Cult
Gary Numan
Blondie
XTC
ABC
Cindy Lauper
Prince
Culture Club
Ani-Motion
Tommy Tutone
NKOTB (yes, "Hangin' Tough" was released in '89)
G'N'R
Helix
Eric B. & Rakim
Boogie Down Productions
Soul II Soul
Big Daddy Kane (brings the house down every time)
Tesla
Billy Idol
Tom Jones-"Kiss"
Siouxsie and Joy Division were keenly felt in the 80s but had more of an impact in the late 70s, sorry. That's if you're sticking to your guns and keeping it strictly 80s.
As for Depeche Mode, something off of "101" would be best. Most of their studio albums lacked any kind of oomph. |

find a torrent site and get the top 1000 hits of the 80's. I downloaded that a few months ago and have been living retro ever since. |

Thanks everyone for your help. I just downloaded the Top 100 Billboard charts for every year, from 1980 - 1989. Its going to take a while to go through them all, but I'll watch out for all the groups you mentioned.
Anybody know about Stevie Wonder coming to Seoul?!!! |

You shouldn't forget Phil Collins. Actually, the Miami Vice TV show record should give you a solid half hour. |
