An easy one...I'm back in Canada and will be in Seattle shortly for a few days.....
What I'm asking is not touristy stuff---I can get a paper and figure that out but just whats the place like in a big picture sort of way....
you tend to hear it is
1) hip and cool or grunge
or
2) yuppie and boring and bad...
Is it cool? boring safe)) ? so forth...
Much Obliged! |

Absolutely both! depends on where you look. My theory about Seattle, after living there for about 16 years, is that the cool grunge element is a direct reponse to the boring bourgeoise dominance.
It is one of America's great cities, but. unfortunately, most people there arrogantly believe the hype.
Check out the U District, the alleys of Pioneer Square, and, unless it has all been sanitized, areas of tbe Broadway district. I am sure there are newer, hipper areas, but I've not been there for a while. |

| Stay at the Green Tortoise Hostel, shop for fresh fish at the market and cook such at the hostel. Visit Belltowne, which is the north side of down town. Visit the Five Corners Cafe, Queen Anne and the Capital Hill area. Read the marquee at The Lusty Lady, visit SAM and read the Stranger. Have a latte at Westpoint mall and watch the poor suckers who have to work. Get a street outfitted mountain bike and ride up and down Pike and Pine street late at night. Go at at dead bodies in Ranier Beach. Go see the Lenin statue and the troll in Freemont. I was a 7 year resident and when I'm back in town, thats what I do. |

Check out Paul Allen's new Sci Fi museum (which I think is at Paul Allen's Experience Music Project museum).
The EMP was originally going to be a Jimi Hendrix museum (Paul Allen is a guitarist and fan of Hendrix). However, a deal between Allen (he was the cofounder of Microsoft) and Hendrix's father fell through. So Allen spun it as a museum of rock music. It's a tad expensive but a good afternoon. |
