I'm sure this has been beaten to death. What are the new requirements for getting an E-2 visa? What documents must be sent overseas to process the visa? I only have one notorized copy of my degree at the moment and it's difficult to get another right now. Will one suffice just for the start? |

A Notarized copy is ok, but Immigration will keep that copy, and if your school runs things by the book, they will need to register you with the board of education, and they will need a copy of it too. (But the second one isn't necessary to get your E2 visa)
Sealed transripts
Passport size picture (photobooth jobs are ok)
Signed contract
Photocopy of the picture page of your passport
Resume
More if it is for a public school. |

Yeah, I am going through this right now. I start my CELTA course on Monday, then I finish four weeks later on the Friday. Then I fly on Saturday and start teaching on Monday at a public school... I'm going to be busy. So I spent the last week trying to get all the VISA stuff together. I signed on Tuesday, so that gave me three business days to do it all.
Here is the list they sent:
Required Documents :
A Completed Application form (Form attached)
 Personal essay(Form attachment)
An Official Medical Check up (by a medical institution)
 Medical Self Evaluation (Form attached)
An original Diploma & a sealed transcript.
 A copy of passport
If applicable: Teaching Certificate Copies (ie, TESOL, TEFL)
A letter verifying that the certificate is from a 100-hour course
 Recommendation letter
 Criminal Record Check
(As it will take too long, please fill in the attached statement first before submittion to us. Then, you will bring it to Korea.)
Three copies of signed contract (You must sign on each pages.-To be provided for your signature later)
 2 passport-size photos
South Korean immigration office is very strict to receive an original diploma and it will be returned to you once you arrive in Korea. In addition, it is very important that your univerity transcript must be sealed by the school authority and must not be opened.
To track mailing status and avoid any delay or unexpected missing, it is highly recommended for you to send the above documents by FedEx.
Once we have received your documents, we will visit the immigration office in South Korea. It will take about 7 days to process your "visa issuance number'.
Once the number is issued, we will let you know.
I've done most, but the criminal background check and the medical are the most annoying. The medical they require is pretty out there. Chest X-rays, liver, etc.. my first doc looked at the sheet I handed him like I'd just assigned him some Chinese algebra and promptly dismissed me. The second doc was Korean, so she was still inexperienced with it, but she wasn't surprised. I tell you what, it sure is comprehensive, and I doubt much will happen to some items on the list other than to chuck it in a filing cabinet to collect dust.[/b] |

I did within the last 6 weeks. I had to send to Korea
-three (3) signed/dated copies of my contract
-one (1) sealed in official school envelope set of transcripts
-a notarized (by a notary public) and certified by the Secretary of State and Korean Consulate copy of undergrad diploma
-two (2) passport size color photos
-one (1) color copy of the info page from my passport
After I got the Visa confirmation number by email from my recruiter (took almost 4 weeks because of the Christmas and New Years holidays). I went back to the Consulate. This trip required:
-one (1) passport sized photo (I used one of the extras from the first set I sent. I had 4 of them taken at one time so they were identical).
-application form (you can download from the Consulate/Embassy's website)
-Visa confirmation number
-application fee (at the SF Consulate it was $45 for the E2)
Hope that helps |
