I received a text message from immigration that my visa is expiring, so I pulled out my passport and realized it too will expire next month. I haven't traveled outside the country this last year so I didn't check the date.oops!
I have a new contract for next year with my uni. already signed and accepted for 2007/2008 semesters.

Fortunately, I have dual citizenship, US/Canadian, so I'll use my Canadian passport which is valid. Any leaks in this thought process. Should immigration be ok with my Canadian passport even though I've been using my US passport for the last 2 years?

Also it states Im a US citizen on my ARC card.

Relevant comments appreciated.

Pop into the embassy and get a new passport. It takes an hour of your time and is completed with new passport in hand in a short time (days-weeks).

By changing passports/nationalties you become a "different person" and there are significant differences in how you are treated under the law.

Canadians are NOT exempted from Korean income tax and US citizens are for the first 2 years (if you are in a UNI or public school).

Canadians pay for re-entry permits. US citizens don't.

If you change passports (to a different nationality) you will have to go through the whole visa application process - including all the documentation AND the visa run.

Also, immigration is a little backwards when it comes to people with two passports. They always suspect something suspicious is going on, so it's bound to be trouble for you.

Get your rear down to the embassy NOW!

I have an Israeli passport to go with my Canadian one. I wonder what would happen if I tried to use it?

If they give you trouble when the name on your degree and passport don't match, I can't imagine what would happen if your nationality suddenly changed (from their perspective). I'd take the hour out of your life now to save yourself many hours and headaches down the road.

Your visa would be denied because Israel is NOT on the list of approved countries for an E2 to teach English.

Korea does NOT recognise dual nationality.

Yeah, get to the embassy and apply for your new passport. If you're lucky, it'll only take a week or two, but if you're UNlucky, it could take up to a month. (Remember, in the States, February has a LOT of holidays!!) If you have to go to immigration to renew your visa before your new passport comes, take your about-to-expire passport (which, I'm assuming, has an expiration date that is past the beginning date of your contract) and they'll stamp that. Be sure to explain that your new passport is in the works. When you get your new passport go back to immigration and they'll put the correct stamp in your passport and update your ARC.
